No grain added! #3666 *

north 33d st, Philadelphia

Like I was making "natural" food for the supermarket, I didn't use the grain filter to bring out the grain in the concrete. But I confess that the grain was emphasized when I sharpened the fence post.

Tom - My turn to be frank. I brought this home and moved it to my 21" monitor. THEN I saw that 2 1/2" monitor on my camera had LIED to me. I did check when I took the photo that the fence was lined up with its shadow; it was clear on the camera's LCD. But as you see, it wasn't! Is it a little more interesting because it's a little cockeyed? Maybe I'll swing by there tomorrow and try to get it dead center. - Max

Max, pardon me for being frank. (Actually Tom) Anyway, this has some high drama going for it but it has some technical flaws which if absent would have left a kind of gothic masterpiece. There's something about the iron fence combined with its shadow on the stain on the concrete that creates an atmosphere of clanky movies or heavy metal music. Maybe it helps to like the music. As I write this, I'm finding that the 'flaws' may actually enhance the shot - namely the misalignment that can be seen here and there, which as is creates a sense of movement that otherwise would have been more static and timeless. (PS. this is probably all nonesense, but I felt like saying it.) -tv
