Nice beads Rod. I see the difference tones in them and their nice smooth texture. I have my crt monitor calibrated to see all the tones here
http://www.photofriday.com/calibrate.php

The LCD at work was blowing all the highlights, so I tweaked it with the site there and it helped a lot. A lot of LCD are over contrasty or over bright. But it won't take long till you get used to the settings that are right for photo viewing. Then there's the next step of calibrating for color, but I haven't gone there yet.

Thanks Carole & Tommy:-) You may have trouble even buying a Crt these days Tommy I think everything is LCD now. There's some excellent LCDs for picys up the price range, I don't know how to go about finding what LCDs do picys well. I know the Apple cinema display is great for picys but is more of a top range monitor I think. Maybe from middle range & up will do the trick. Just be careful when you're looking as the computer sales person not into photography will say even the lowest price ones do millions of colours so are good for picys but the tonal range is quite poor when compared to a Crt.

I like this one the best Rod, looks good on my monitor with the darker B/G and a little more toning in the beads and not quite so bright. :-) CJ

These monitor differences are frustrating. You are correct that I'm viewing on LCD monitors, but hi res good quality 21 inch. At home is an HP and at work is an IBM. Even between them are differences. I'm thinking about getting a CRT again. The new beads look better at home now.

I feel the same way about using the challenges to take picys. It gets boring waiting for the next one so cycling a few for viewing and comments keeps it interesting. -tv

Here's a toned down version that is a compromise between my monitor & Mereana's. The beads have more detail now on my monitor but the overall shot looks less graphic in nature.

Are you viewing on a generic LCD monitor or lap top Tommy as the one you put in pending looks a bit mottled & less graphic on my Crt monitor. In this shot the beads are brightish on my monitor but look quite good for me. I will fire up the missus lap top & see if I can see wot you're seeing. I mostly use these challenges to make me take picys so I normally do turn over a few shots & once they're in pending I normally leave them there as I'm not testing for comments as to whether I leave them here or not. If I consider my first three as good shots it's a bit of a problem as it means I don't take any picys for two weeks. Photography is much more a hobby now than the passion it was 35 years ago, I hope to get right back into it when I retire.
I've just had a look on Mereana's lap top & the whites look almost blown yet on my screen they have a bright pearly white look. I printed this out yesterday for my daughter Holly who loved the graphic look of this & it printed very close to what I'm seeing on my screen which means my screen is the right look. Generic LCDs & lap tops aren't very good for viewing picys as they seem to miss a lot of tones out of the picys. The look on the generic LCD reminds me of what the picys looked like on our old Apple computer many years ago which only had a basic 8 bit video card compared to the 16/32 bit picys on good video cards.
Thanks Tommy:-)

Although there are no burnouts, the contrast is overwhelming on my moniter. Why not burn in the beads? IMO you have better in Pending - a couple of which are VERY good (e.g.: Boats, Cranes, and Power Poles) and just need more time to reach the audience. -tv
