Great picture, I love the contrast changes and the light coming in from the left side! It gives an effect of increasing grain towards the right.

Thanks Brent:-) Titles are funny things really & I pay no attention to them. I've seen comments here where the actual title is the emotional content of the shot which seems weird to me. When I was into photography back in the early seventies I can't recollect titles having any bearings on the impact of the great photographers picys. So for me the only impact comes from viewing the picy not the title:-)

I agree that your title initially makes Tom's crop work best, but without the title this is a better image- slightly. It is nicely done Rod. I hope Paul's sewage isn't coming out of that pipe?

I see your point, Rod. The difference is the visual choice: to glorfy the aged pipe thing or to emphasize the rather bleak, worn out sea-landscape. Either works. Artist's choice. Nice arrrty work. Thanks for the dialog. -tv

Good points Tommy & when I first looked at your crop in pending I thought it looked much better. I downloaded it & compared them side by side & it became clear to me that my original shot is more a general scene with the pipe being a kind of weak focal point & your crop makes the pipe a strong focal point. I still prefer my original as a picy. I don't think I was intending the pipe to be the main subject more just a part of the scene. I'm a bit naughty & pay little attention to titles so I just call them the first thing I can think of. The pipe wasn't that important to me when I named the shot.
Thanks mate:-)

Good subject... gritty and grainy (even without the noise). But this time I think the composition robs the pipe and concrete construction of its impact because the landscape is suffocating the monumentality of the object. Too much sky flattens it and excess space on the right absorbs the otherwise powerful diagonal thrust. I put a crop in pending. A judicious in camera crop could make is work better. -tv

Thanks Bruce, Barry & Doug:-) Yes it's freezing at night Doug down to 4degC some nights but the daytime temps are around 20degC so it's very pleasant.

Looks like you had a little trouble with huge sun and you handled it well. It's not like you to take pictures mid-day. It must be getting cold there. -COAmature

Is this a fallen lighthouse??? It is very vacant (in a zen kinda way). The grain works well here. Nice work. -- Bruce
