Thanks for the comments, Lee & Tom. This is a very small flower cluster about the size of your smallest fingernail and its from the alfalfa plant. Alfalfa is a high protein clover relative used as hay to feed about half the food animals in the US. I've never really gotten this close to see what this blossom looked like before.
