Flight

Long Island, NY

Don't know how abstract this is, but was
very much a graphic, so I figured I'd give
it a shot here. It's certainly an odd airshow
shot, can't say I've ever seen one like it. :)

Canon EOS 5D ,Canon EF 75-300mm f/4-5.6 IS USM
1/4000s f/5.6 at 300.0mm iso200 full exif

other sizes: small medium original auto

Lonnit, this has continued to grow for me: it is now 1 (pole), 2 (slip streams), 3, 4, 5... n (fuzzy tree branches), arranged as the Greek letter Pi (unmeasurable)... all coinciding with the moment that you pointed your camera skyward. -tv

Cool shot Lonnit. I really like it. Perhaps abstract in concept but not as strong an abstract visually. With the tone, texture and fighters as such. It does give a sense of a cold war era type feeling. The shot is perfect as such, only would maybe clone out the branches? near the bottom right.

I'll take whatever I can! LOL! ~ Lonnit

Lonnit, Tommy is only talking like this because he's seen your legs portrait:-)

Yes, TV, that's the way it hit me. I thought the scene presented itself in a very graphic way. Thanks. ~ Lonnit

It is an unexpected association among these real objects that makes this abstract for me. -tv
Rod 29-May-2007 07:57
I think if Lonnit cloned everything out except the contrails it would be an abstract:-)

Not abstract but a terrific picture though. -COAmature

Humm, ... doesn't seem abstract, or even surreal, to me. There's no question about what it is or exactly what is going on here. This is quite realistic, to my eyes. Those are the T-Birds, con-trails, lamp posts, trees in a bright/flat lit sky. Nice shot, but abstract, not. Cheers, -mikey

Thanks, men. Like I said, I was unsure genre-wise, but I was so happy with it I thought I'd let the voters decide. I wouldn't change it to make it more fitting to the topic, because I really like it as is - rather lose the votes than not be true to the image. LOL! Funny thing, TV, but I didn't realize the 3, 4,5 until you pointed it out! I knew there was a wonderful relationship between the objects, but I thought it a mere matter of compositional placement. However, you have pointed out the reason why it felt so right to me. I appreciate your pointing it out!! :) ~ Lonnit

Nice conceptual piece: 3,4,5 objects. Great processing, colors & visual impact. I find it abstract and as Rod says, "surreal". -tv
Rod 28-May-2007 07:25
Changed me mind, it would look more surreal.......................is surreal abstract!!!:-)
Rod 28-May-2007 07:07
I think if you cloned out the bottom right lights & branch it may just look a little bit abstract.........I only said a little bit:-)

I'm not sure this is all that strong an image for an abstract challenge (as apparently you were wondering too), but it's very cool Lonnit. Really graphic- almost like a pencil sketch. Those jets remind me of those mind boggling multiple bird patterns Escher used to sketch- very Nice!
