Distant Thunder v.3 *

Guffey, CO

Same time, same place, different zoom w/portrait orientation. Looking to the East at Pike's Peak (in clouds, 14,110' altitude) with a small volcanic cone in the center background; clouds cover the afternoon sun at my back. The horizontal orange strip in center-right background is a sunlit mountain above timberline (11,000' altitude).

Canon EOS 20D ,Tamron SP AF17-50mm f/2.8 XR DiII
1/1600s f/5.6 at 50.0mm iso400 full exif

other sizes: small medium original auto

Thanks for your sincere comments, Tom. They are well appreciated. Now that I see this one a few more times, I really like it better than the first one I posted. There's less "blah" space and a clearer vision of the elements of the scene. It doesn't seem to have that "painterly" look, either. I moved the original post to Pending, sans comments. Warm regards, -mikey

Excellent - no kidding. The portrait orientation works very well because it is so well composed. It also seems more natural and unprocessed. Oh well, it's late so I can't say more now, but I'll go back later and compare with the earlier landscape - or is it gone? -tv
