I'm talking about cropping OFF that mass of blackness, so the moon resides on the right line of thirds. You did well to place it on the lower line of thirds, so it only seems natural to do the same with the vertical thirds. :) ~ Lonnit

Skinny = Unique and Unique = Good therefore Skinny = Good. (or something like that) -COAmature

I'm breaking all the rules:>) This was cropped from a much larger shot and to be honest doing the rule of thirds things would never had occurred to me. If anything putting the moon in the third of the image would have been pointless. Most of the deep black on the right (at least on my monitor) is leaves with a bit of night sky showing through.

Skinny is good:>)

Don't encourage him Lonnit he took a duff shot & tried to turn it into a shot wiv a skinny crop......despicable init:-)

I like this Autumn moon, it looks like a panoramic view and the sides of darkness adds to the mood.
BTW Paul, its nice to see ya back in full swing and having Rod adding to the comments. :)

Skinny, I'll take; it's the centered composition that's got me. That whole right side is dead black space. Crop most of it off and you'll still be skinny, but your ass, er, um, I meant moon, will be on the thirds line where it will be most happy. :) ~ Lonnit

I like it skinny. I see no reason why it has to be anything else. The bottom of the photo descends into black and the top is empty sky so if i had it as 800x600 or whatever a standard shot is then the moon slowly rising through the branches would be just a hardly noticable blob. It's arht you uncultured buffoon. Whats the matter with looking out of a post box anyway, i thought that was how you spent the weekends?

It's my Sidney Nolan phase anyway:>)

Correction.....Panorama, now we're digital should be a stitch so at least the shot won't be so skinny minny.
Rod 03-May-2007 07:54
This is a good idea for a shot but these skinny crops is like looking out of a postal box or Ned Kelly's helmet, I really don't see the point. A panorama to me is a wide angle shot on a normal crop. ................I must be normal, cos I like normal:-)
Why don't you drink less to night & take another shot, & don't forget while you're at it to take another one with the blinds open a bit. Tell Emma it's for me:-)

Very nice Paul. I hope people will bother to click on that thumbnail as it really is a beauty seen larger. Yeah, these wider images are tough to present at their best this gallery. Seems like instead of an 800 pixel limit in either direction we should be allowed go 1000 in width- almost any monitor can fit that without having to scroll I think. Still, I have a panorama I may post in exhibition as a result of seeing how this particular shot works well.

. I like it skinny. On the page it looks fine to me, looks bloody silly on the thumbnail page with that ugly brown surround though.
Rod 02-May-2007 10:40
Gawd this is so skinny.
