I love the bliss and exuberance on her face, which is well supported by the explosive effect. The image is bursting with joy and fun and I couldn't care less about the technical issues because it makes me feel so good to look at it. With this kind of emotional impact nothing else matters!

Funny how the gauges fit her like a bra! The energy is purely fantastic! I LOVE that she's wearing a dress (I dress up every day just b/c it feels good!) I love how the orange lights match the skirt trim. This would have been the ultimate self-portrait for me to do, as it expresses my own energy, exuberance, and passion for life! Wish I would have thought of it! Not that I have a bike... This is truly your best work!!! Consider yourself standing-ovated!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! {{{{{{{hugs!}}}}}}}}}} ~ Lonnit wearing a massive birthday smile!!!!

"Bugger Jano you need a Dslr:-)" Been telling her that for a year or so. Be like Christina and get the XTi, I'm sure you will love it.

Maybe the P&S cameras won't let you zoom after the half click. I seem to remember that even though you twist the lens on the Pro1 to zoom it was zoomed by electronics, not mechanically like a Dslr. Bugger Jano you need a Dslr:-)

Thanks Debbi - Rod, I'll give it another shot - I just recall that when I tried to zoom (pro1 is only manual) it didn't move at all. jano

Jano,
The effect was radial blur (zoom) at 50. on the entire layer then masked out the cute gal to the background layer.

I think one way is to half click to focus & expose then with your lens on full telephoto start to smoothly & slowly zoom towards wide angle, just after you start zooming click the shutter. A tripod is best to start off with but after a while you can get good results hand holding. The secret is to not move the lens up down or side to side as you're zooming. The centre of the shot will be sharper than the outsides so will give a real sense of movement. It's more a bit of fun than anything else so it's not often practised. The slower the shutter speed (or quicker you zoom) the more zoom effect you will get. I would think you can do the same on the Pro1 but it may not zoom quick enough if you can't manual zoom. We used to do this on night shots until the novelty wore off:-) I'm sure if the shutter speed was slow enough even the zoom lever of a P&S would get this effect. Try a tripod shot at night of a table lamp on 1/2sec or more to see the effect.

I tried that zoom technique thingy on the Pro1 when we had the blur challenge and wasn't able to get it to work. Nothing moved :( Assuming you have it on a timer, do you click the shutter and then zoom after or how is that done exactly???? Do you need a dslr to do this? Debbi - how did you get this effect in pp? Thanks jano

You should always post what you want to post Debbi & we will post the critiques we want to post, although some do get their knickers in a twist the way I say things but mine is only one opinion amongst many. There was no stipulation in the topic that prevents any amount of photoshopping so comments from someone like me shouldn't have any influence on you unless you agree with the comments. Were a diverse bunch here & I'm the only normal one:-)
One little point, you said you couldn't get this in effect camera, just in case you're not aware this effect can be done with a slowish shutter speed say 1/4 sec or slower & zoom in or out as you click the shutter. Of course unless you use a tripod the static subject will be somewhat blurred but that can in some cases enhance the desired effect. I'm just from the old school that believes a picy should be mostly created in camera & not in Photoshop, as creating in Photoshop makes it more of a graphic than a picy (still a work of ahrt I'm told but a picy is a picy init):-) Lot's of us here are mature age Debbi so you're in good company, our youngest members are Jano & Sharon who are only in their mid 30s:-)

I don't have any problem with Photoshopping if it enhances the image in the way that you, the photographer, envision. And, I think this works really well, it makes her joy that much more intense. Good work, Debbi! ~Sharon

I love it... Great work on the ps work. It still shows a photograph and tends to bring out the feel of the emotion, the sense of power and speed...and the person's omg pleasure of it. I think the real question becomes..... out of this photograph (pure and simple) does the ps work really distract from it? I say no... I see the emotion on her face, the shear pleasure which for me makes this image. I think this image is well portrayed and probably what you wanted to achieve. On the other hand, knowing the song the way I do... I'm not sure it portrays the essence of the song the way I interpret it. But that is my opinion only and I'll have to think on that one. Great job Debbi! jano

After I posted it I read the comment Rod and someone else made about 'hoping no one would over do the PS work". I figured if it bothered anyone I'd just remove it. If I could have done this 'in camera' I would have, but that's no to be.

I only wish I were this young and cute. This was a model "Salsa Dancer" that we had at my college lighting class. There was a motocycle outside and she agree to pose for all 24 of us. I'm 58 years old and starting a new hobby by taking one class in college. Half the people in my class are my age. I was surprised at that!

Love the PS work here. Good work!

This is fun Debbi. Doing it with zoom would have been quite a feat, you came up with quite a striking image doing it this way. Too bad you didn't have a British triumph bike available- would have been quite fitting. Well done.

Made me laugh Debbi! The placement of the meters makes me think of Madonna and she better watch her skirt or she'll be leaving home naked! The blur makes it look as though she's zooming along. Fun shot! ;-) CJ

Cool artistic effects ;)

Great idea for the challenge Debbi but I think it would have worked better for me if you did this with the zoom & not in PS. Well done anyhow:-)
