I tried a bit more contrast etc but the shot lost something, I need more PP skills I think. Thanks Jano:-)

Great image Rod. I think it needs some pop, but not sure what exactly. My fav of yours. jano

now thats a portrait worthy of an album cover. combination of background, clothes, expressions, and a perfect stare is a perfect recipe for a nice portrait. somehow neat/clean white light bulb feels odd but not misplaced...and i like it too. nice work! -Abstract

The ceiling and the light add to image for me. Gives it meaning. I like this one the best. -COAmature

I know what you mean, Rod, about just shooting and not worrying too much about the rules. You end up with much more spontenous and lively shots that way. That being said, the ceiling doesn't seem to add much to this picture. Without it I feel that I "see" Josh better. I don't think it is all that important that we make sense of the wonkyness, it's fun having a shot that isn't all squared up to look at! ~Sharon

Thanks Carole:-) That's a drum on the right don't know what the white thing is.

This is my fav also Rod, and I agree with Sharon about the crop of the ceiling. I find the white bit on the left bottom and the bottle on the right bottom a little distracting, but not too much, and the perspective and pose are great! CJ

Thanks Sharon & Bruce:-) It's quite funny Sharon I had to shoot some band shots at Josh's house & these ones with only one person in are what I said were test shots so I could get some for the challenge:-) All the other shots are of the three band members. But what I found to be funny was that I didn't worry about the rule of thirds or straight horizons & I just felt really free. Looking at the shots as I'm processing them they seem to be more dynamic than when I try to follow the rules. I was thinking that the angle & shadow in the cement ceiling help make sense of how sloped & wonky the rest of the shot is:-) Mind you this is best viewed after consuming a six pack:-)

Good one, Rod! I do think it might be improved by a little application of the rule of thirds. If you cropped the ceiling to just above the light bulb we wouldn't miss that cement at all and the compostion would be a bit more dynamic. ~Sharon

Love the low angle and the single bare lightbulb. -- Bruce

Thanks all:-) This was shot in the stairwell of the house, I think the lighting & the way he's holding his head makes him look different Mary Anne:-)

Another good one, Rod. Josh looks very different here from the photo of him you have (had?...it's sometimes hard to keep up with your entries ;-) ) in Exhibition.

This is my favorite of your three. Good perspective, good lighting and contrast, and the ceiling light adds character to the scene.
