6th: Geisha of the Gilded Age by Henry Dondi

Lenox, MA.

This actress, Ikuko Ikari, portrayed Yuki Morgan, wife of George Morgan, in a one person, one act play at Ventfort Hall in Lenox. George Morgan and his sister Sarah Morgan purchased the property in 1891 and had Ventfort Hall designed and built.

The painting on the wall, behind the actress, is of the actual Yuki (Kato) Morgan. Ikuko graciously allowed me to photograph her, after her last performance in Spetember 2006.

Thank you all for the comments. As I said before, I don't know why the "greenish tone". I can get it tilting my laptop screen, but not in the normal way I use it. It is also not on the print. I guess the reduction can't do the image justice. Yes Rod, I dodged the eyes to make them stand out. I don't expect everyone to like it, but it's "ahrt"! :) - Henry

Her skin tone looks strange (greenish). Really like the photo non the less. Good work, Henry.

Wot have you done to her eyes Henry? The whites look very strange have you tried to lighten them or clone something? The rest of the shot looks really nice mate.

Stunning!! I love the tones! Her eyes almost look like they glow from within.
What an honor she allowed you Henry, I think you did her justice.

Hi Mary Anne, The 12x16 print itself is striking, thank you. I don't know why this image has that "greenish muddy haze". As I tilt my laptop screen back & forth, it comes and goes. It was taken with available light through a stained glass window to our left, her right and the camera was probably on AWB. Sorry I wish I knew more. - Henry

Henry, this could be a striking portrait, but it seems to have a greenish muddy haze to it. Have you tried increasing the contrast or resetting the black point? I know that the lighting in these old houses is usually problematic and even auto white balance doesn't always take care of it. In cases where the color cast is really bothersome, as it is here, I'd consider a b & w conversion.
