This was backlit through linen...one light from behind, another back to the side. (so two backlights). I liked the effect as it gave it almost a painting look to it.

I really like this, Jano! The petals have a richness in color, detail and texture. The composition is nicely balanced and the overall effect is very pleasing! ~Sharon

After staring at it for a bit it almost looks 3D. Really good shot. It would make a nice wall piece. -COAmature

Exceptionally pleasing image!!! It has a lot of dimension and you are right, a painterly effect. (I must try this myself.) Thanks for the idea!! shu

Beautiful Jano and it looks like a still life painting. :)
Rod 21-Mar-2007 05:58
Yes I like it like this:-)

I like it just the way it is. Rich

Daffy: It does contrast nicely - that's what is nice, is just different perspectives on the subject. Thanks for commenting. jano

Oh this is way cool. Except for the lack of detail in the brown elements at the bottom it is perfect for my eye. And might I say the soft uncluttered background contrasts perfectly against the hyper background of my flower entry: Going Daffy.

I might add...that you will see how the leaves are dark and the blooms are lit... That is from the light coming from the rear (the leaves are thick). If there was no rear light and only front light...the leaves would be more defined vs. more silhouette as they are here. Does this make sense? At least it is my theory on how the pic came across looking as it did.

I really like the pinched off stem CJ - This isn't a pic of stem flowers per se, but a plant that is in bloom. I kinda liked the three at the bottom also.... Something would have been cut off as it is a plant...not a picy of flowers... But it can certainly be done. jano

The more I look at this the more I think I like the elements at the bottom but maybe wish the one white flower down there was another dark leaf instead. I kinda' like things in threes! The cut off stem could be cloned out though....... I think. The lighting does seem to come more from the side and front even though you've explained how you lit it - this is harder to do than we all thought! ;-) CJ

Well one eye is good rod, but i'm getting used to the other one being not as sharp so i can read better. It may just take some getting used to.

Backlit doesn't mean glare does it? I mean a shot can be nicely lit from the back, giving it a different look vs. a shot that has glare in the background? I don't think a pic necessary needs to have glare? jano

Now I'm not smoking I'm seeing tension in shots of Snow White & Mickey Mouse:-)
The funny thing is I quite like the shot with a crop off the top about 1/4" above the flower, it seems to balance better then. I love the look of the flowers they look great but like some of our shots it doesn't seem to be backlit even though it is. Lots of backlit shots I'm getting look front lit. I think Mikey's set us up wiv this topic:-)
Well done on the look of the flowers Jano, does your eye feel normal now?
janewigginsphotography20-Mar-2007 11:04
Thanks CJ and Mickey - I seriously thought about cloning those items out, but thought I'd post for initial reaction. (I'm hoping Rod thinks there is added tension in the shot :) I can certainly clone but may let it sit a bit to rest and tackle later this evening jano

Lovely Jano, and I agree with Mikey about having the other elements either all in or all out of the composition. At least I think so! Love the textures and soft color palette! CJ

Wow, Jano! This is a lovely effect. Congrats on the technique; it worked well. If it were me, I'd have cropped it a bit differently, tho: Either including or excluding the flowers and things(?) at the bottom. Their halfness is distracting from a powerful and otherwise gorgeous image, IMhO (of course). Warm fuzzies (and I don't mean vision":^) -mikey
