I think its more that its featureless Andy as in reality there's always some graduation of tones, which I think often will make the shots work better as Photos:-)

Is it the colour or featureless background that you don't like Rob......would a nice colourd bokeh enhance the image, do you think?

A very clear shot of the pod with nice lighting but these featureless white backgrounds leaves me cold, sort of takes any warmth or feeling out of the shot. A well shot documentary type shot anyhow:-)
