Rob, I like high key images, especially with my b&w photos. Not much processing other than converting to b&w on "honest work". "Generations" is heavily worked in PS and the posterisation and added noise is quite obvious. I use channel mixer to convert in pretty standard way then use a gradient mapping to give the contrast that I like.......I think it is the effect gradient mapping that you refer to. Do you see this as neccessarily a negative thing? I have a soft vignette around the outer part of the image too - intended to draw the viewer to subject.

An excellent shot Andy but I'm starting to notice a processing similarity in these shots. It's not so obvious viewing the first shot but becomes quite noticeable by the third. A sort of over highlighted focal point & too quick a drop off in light away from the focal point. It's nice to have good blacks & whites but seeing tones in between if we can get them makes the shot more natural I think. The skin tones away from the highlight areas look quite hard for some reason. Great eye though:-)
