Nicely shot and it works well for me regarding this topic Jano. I really like the title.

I think you're right Jano but I'm expecting the shot to say darkness to me without me having to think too much. Obviously there's a line to be drawn somewhere between low light shots & darkness shots where that is I don't know technically. I don't see death when I see skeletons of dinosaurs or mummy's or of animals when they are cleanly presented they just seem like exibits to look & wonder at. That's the feel I got from this shot. If you had titled it death I may have got the point but it's the shot & not the title that should convey the feel which is one of the great things about photography, thinking up great titles is another discipline unrelated to photography. This shot is too well lit to give me the impression or feel of death but in a literal analysis of a skeleton then the word death would used.
I will try to lighten up a bit:-)

Thanks for commenting Christina and Rod - Rod, I think your view of this topic is more on the "dark" side, i.e., coloring and exposure, than the view of another aspect which can be eerie, foreboding, unnatural, mystery, etc. I think both viewpoints work within this challenge. I do think this could work well in another setting ... and I'll think about that. Thanks :) jano

Obviously I missed the point completely I just didn't see this as death. Maybe because it looks more like a museum exhibit in a glass case. A shot in the garden say in the dirt would have led me to think of death better:-)

I think this works incredible well for this theme. Nicely done!

Thanks all for commenting. We have had this skull as an ornament of sorts in our backyard for years - (I didn't find it lol). But i've always had this southwest theme going on so it just adds a bit of that... anyway.... ya I brought it in as I have never photographed it before. The horns are actually quite long and huge so I'm not sure if I could have pulled this off at a different angle using my cam. My main attempt was to get the menacing feel of the skeleton, using the natural cracks as a focus, more of a conceptual feel of the theme. jano

Darkness in all its forms. Well done!

This is great Jano! I like the side lighting and tight crop, and there is certainly nothing darker than death. CJ

This is a great shot Jano as it portrays the dark side of life and light. Great idea.

You do have a huge bowl for soup. A bit menacing feel to your picture.

Soup bone? Now that's funny. I assume you brought a dead animal into the house for this shot. That's dedication!
ctfchallenge08-Jan-2007 13:10
Like this shot, especially the eye socket.
Rod 08-Jan-2007 10:06
PS. Just had a thought, if we could see the beam of light on its way through the darkness & then highlighting the poor deceased animal then the darkness would be more obvious...............I think:-)
Rod 08-Jan-2007 10:03
This speaks more to me of a directional light creating shadows rather than the feeling of darkness. But we have to get this challenge running so I'm going to say nicely done Jano:-)
