Thanks Rod, I do, in theory, know about that "rule", but I almost always use an "IS" lens and have been used to shooting handheld at lower shutter speeds, so I neglected to take that into consideration here. I should have used better lighting and/or a tripod and certainly will next time! CJ

I don't know if you know already Carole but our shutter speed shouldn't be less than the focal length of the lens, unless as you said we have "IS" or as RK said the tripod:-)
CJ, looking at the EXIF for this picture...would like to point out a couple of things
- shutter speed is way too low for the lens
- need a higher aperture value for sharpness.
I would use an external flash to pump some light onto the flower...or if you prefer existing light...would use a tripod.
My 2cents.

Thanks Rod. Well, the challenge was spots so I thought I'd concentrate on those but if I have time, I'll retake this with a bigger DOF. CJ

I don't think the narrow dof helps this shot at all wiv all the oof bits. I think a different viewpoint or F16 would have worked a bit better. Still a shot of a lovely flower must be a lovely shot a:-)
Good onya Carole:-)
