I don't know if this one is successful or not. Because of the subject, I was trying for a grainy film look and maybe the feeling a pinhole camera would give. The "vignetting" at the sides is actually part of the privacy fence I was shooting through. I'd be interested in your opinions/suggestions.

Really, really good and i don't think it needs any changing. Everything works so well, the leafless trees, the cold pale sky, the building sloping away as if it's about to fall over and the pile of junk at centre stage make for a depressing dilapidated mood. As Sharon said the vignetting looks like looking through a peephole at something that is meant to be hidden from view. Well done

Thank you, Brent, Rod, and CJ. Carole, I can see your point about cropping out the sky, but at the same time, I kind of like those uncertain branches coming down from the top. I'll have to think about it.

The partially obscured view provided by the fence workd really well here to frame the shot along with the tree branch on top. You actually could crop out the sky for an even stronger image and would focus even more attention on the bright rubbish. Good one Mary Anne! CJ

Nicely done Mary Anne the chairs & stuff really stand out well.

If your editing program has a burning function, I would expect you could just burn the shadow range along the top to even out the vignetting Mary Anne- if you decide you want to anyway.

Sharon and Brent, I really don't know how to do vignetting. The chainlink fence around this scrap metal place had a privacy screen composed of vertical plastic strips attached to it. I shot through the narrow space between the strips (less than 1 inch wide), resulting in the vignetting on either side. Shu, the background is an old mill building. Holyoke was the first planned industrial city in the country and still has some of the old factories built in the late 19th century.

Interesting background, too. Nice! Now where did you find this? Mass. has some great locations for this stuff.. There must be many in Ct. but I just never know where. shu

I really like this Mary Anne, and think Sharon made a great suggestion for making it even better. Very creative what you are doing with this one :-)

This has the feeling of a Matthew Brady Civil War image, that era. The vignetting adds a little softness to an image that might be intolerably hard, in more ways than one. I think I would like to see the vignetting carried through across the top as well. Looking at this I almost feel like a voyeur, looking through a peephole. Good work! ~Sharon
