Fall Reflections IIa

Pontoosuc Lake, Pittsfield, MA.

Looking west, across Pontoosuc Lake on a fairly calm day. Just a little north of my previous photo.

It is a great shot either way.

That's how I had it and took other's suggestions and changed it. Also cloned out marker buoys in foreground. Both have their good and bad points.

Great colors and reflection! My preference would be to crop the hills out and let the reflection tell the story.

Good job, I like the fall colors, Arie

Beautiful, Henry! You have really caught the feel of the area at this time of year. The reflections are great! ~Sharon

I actually thought it was cropped from a much larger shot as it's all got that sort of vagueness about it. It's a shame as the colours, particularly those reflected in the water are so good. To be honest i don't think seeing much of the houses matters regarding the challenge, if your original large photo has the wonderful water with those colours as a full landscape might be better. Have you entered 3 yet?

Beautiful warm colors and reflections.
Henry Dondi 30-Oct-2006 21:53
Yes Paul, it is not "tack sharp", but this is a smaller crop of a larger image. If I printed it full out, the houses would be somewhat small and appear, somewhat sharper. The houses are 1/2 mile from where I was standing. I don't think they are that bad, for that distance, but I see what you are saying.

Nothing appears to be focused here, are my eyes going off? No one else has mentioned it.

We shouldn't get too hung up on the thirds rule if a shot looks right then it is right. The rules are only there for when we are learning, once we have developed an eye then we should forget about the rules of photography because there are no rules in a creative process. This shot may not conform to the so called rules but it sure looks better to me than the shot before that did follow the rules..........If you know wot I mean:-)
I like this a lot better Henry, well done:-)

I think it looks great now Henry! Even though some might not like the water line at the half way point of the picture, I think it works for this one. Good job cloning! CJ

Well CJ, it was tilted way to the right, good eye! I lost some sky on the left due to straightening the horizon, so this is all I have left. Buoys gone, less water, hope you all think it's better. Henry

Beautiful fall reflections Henry, although it appears a little tilted to the right to me. The bouys don't add that much for me and I'd probably crop out the bottom one and clone out the other two. Even if the sky isn't that interesting, the hill on the left looks pretty and it might be nice to see a little more of that. Looking forward to the other shot! CJ

Very nice image Henry with great color, but some of Rod's idea I have to agree with. Will look forward to another post from that day you spoke of.

Thanks for your comment. I had that choice. If there were any clouds in the sky, I would have gone that way, but the sky was totally without a cloud in it. So I thought the mooring buoys in the foreground would help add some depth to the photo. I would add the other version, but I have one more photo I took yesterday that I want to post when I get a chance. Thanks again.

I think I would like this better with the camera position shifted up so we had sky, land & reflections but no sky reflection in the water. Lovely looking place:-)
