The grains of salt, frozen in the air give a excellent feel of motion here. Like it! -Cat

Well done Jano these are not easy shots to get with the Pro1 you did just great:-)

Darrell - the lighting from the left was natural and from a window, and the lighting from the right from a light above the stove. I have the 420ex attached to cam and pretty much aimed towards the subject. This shot was probably taken 7:00 p.m. or so.... so not much natural light. I set the timer...and waited right before it went off to shake a little. Hope this offers up a better explanation :) jano

Your lighting explanation with the first pic helps. It would've been interesting to see a shot of the set up you had to get a clearer idea of the lighting used. When it comes to lighting set ups I know nothing and need picy's, much like when I'm reading a book. Nice job with the series, btw.

As for Darrell and others interested in the mechanics of this photo - future posts will be forthcoming. It can be done, it was done, and it can probably be better done!. This is a learning challenge after all!! :) jano

Dear "Guest" ... I'll show you the original if you have the guts to show your name. jano

Thank you for all the great comments! This was a fun series to shoot as I had never tried just small particles in motion before. A great learning xp for me :) jano

Hmmm, I think I have it. Wet down the shaker lid and dip it in salt, there is no pattern evident on the shaker as there should be. PS in some falling pieces and voila. Nice, but obviously tricked up to get the look you want.
Darrel 28-Jul-2006 01:12
How did you do this with no motion blur for falling objects at 1/60s?
ctfchallenge27-Jul-2006 21:11
Very nice series, Jano...but you used a coarser salt, didn't you? Kosher salt? Still, I'm amazed that you were able to capture them in midair!

I am enjoying my garden tomatoes too .....
(though easy on the salt. :) )

Thanks Lee for you comments... I had a hard time with this challenge = inspiration, topic, light, exposure, order, titles, etc. :) Definitely a challenge in my book!! Took your advice and I agree ... things are changed now in an order I feel comfortable with. Whew! jano

I think you have the series backwards. Just a thought.
a single drop
followed by many
then landing on the food.

Wonderful caputure of the salt in motion.
