Yummm, a very appetizing shot. (*) Just a bit more DOF to get more of the front part of the chowder in focus and you got perfection. May be a bit more of a downward angle to help while keeping a shallow DOF? But I do very much like this.
Again, I do see what u mean with the issues of extreme DOF in this picture. This is the vision I had in my mind when I shot it. Focused on the potato and wanted everything else to be OOF.
CJ - this was taken in a quaint little restaurant in Nova Scotia (about 600 miles from home)...the chowder was out of the world.

Nice one again RK, I too would like to see the front part of the chowder in the DOF.
I like this shot too but also wish for a little wider in-focus area, maybe from the front rim of the bowl to just behind the potatoe. Good excuse to go back there to eat! I like the composition, perspective and lighting though. This looks so good - I love Chowder! :-) CJ
I agree with the previous posted. Too much OOF area. It would be perfect if the DOF is right on the chowder. My eyes are distracted at the OOF at the front of the chowder.
RK - you know I LOVE food shots as I'm addicted to cookbooks :) For me, this has a little too much oof in the foreground as I'd like to see more clarity of the chowder and bowl in the foreground. I think a lower angle might work here better vs the angle you chose. What do you think? Lovely shot. jano
