Wonderful capture, when I first saw this image I thought for sure that it was taken with a dslr...
Love the composition, colors and the 'sheen' of the smokestacks...

A dark sky with a hint of sun shining on an object does wonders for any image. I have experienced this once and have a great image with this effect, although not with the color here. I will always be on the look out for this type of light after a storm, or early morning fog with light tricking through :) jano

Sorry, I didn't intend to embed the painting itself. I thought it would be just a link. Feel free to delete it if you want.

Nicola, the dramatic feel of this photo struck me when I first saw it, but I haven't had time to say anything till now. I love the sky and the way the light hits the chimneys. How fortunate that you were able to capture the special combination of light and darkness here. It reminds me of the skies in some of El Greco's paintings. Check this one out:

Thanks a lot for your kind comments !

It was indeed a very special light last Wednesday. I rushed from the office to the main station, took the train to Berlin, then the tube and I was lucky enough to get to the pedestrian bridge over the highway half an hour before it rained.

I have put some more pictures of the power plant and of the bridge under:

http://www.pik-potsdam.de/~botta/tmp/photo/power_plant.bridge.highway/

All pictures are straight from the camera except for resizing to max 1024 x 768 pixels which was done with GIMP.

best,
Nicola

Excellent! What a great lighting.

Very surreal. (I keep expecting to see a flying pig - Pink Floyd fans will know what I mean). This is really very nicely done.

David.

Very nice Nicola. Yes, the light is very special here as well as your composition- framed very nicely. I have been eyeing a plant here in my town with five stacks since this challenge began, but sadly the weather hasn't cooperated. Great work!

This is superb, my favourite by a country mile. The light, the colours, the composition. Top shot.
Rod 01-Jun-2006 07:35
This is one of the great lights we normally get just after rain & the sun just peeps through.
The exposure looks spot on too as it would be so easy to blow out the highlights on the chimneys. Great looking shot Nicola very well done mate:-)

This looks surreal. I really like the way the stacks stand out against that dramatic sky. Nice for this competition, I think...

Nicely lit x 3. The dark cloudy backdrop makes it complete!
