Shadowed In Time *

Sitting and noticed the light through the windows casting this lovely light on a huge photograph my parents had hanging in their bedroom. It's a photo of me when I was 5. I think the entire photograph 30 x 42 or something. I thought it unique and it only lasted for about 2 minutes. My mom is going into a nursing home and is giving us all our photographs throughtout the years. Do you think it would be better showing the framed version of the original photograph? I can do that... but this image was just a "OMG I better get this light" type of photo of a photograph.

Simple levels done only. jano

other sizes: small medium original auto

It is really special with light lands on special items, this happened with a photgraph of my Mother during this challenge as well. Pretty neat isn't it? A moment or minute or two and then gone. Yvonne

This is a unique image, Jano. Pretty nifty idea. Its hard to get a correct exposure in situations like this, but you did good! -Cat

Great idea and beautiful model

This definitely looked like what it is described as on my LCD. I do have it calibrated and the shadow detail I see is only in the lower portion, but I don't think seeing or not seeing shadow detail makes or breaks this interesting shot.

Save your money

I have a hi res CRT you can buy, I'm getting an LCD so I will be able to see through girls clothing:-)

It's not the extra size that makes the difference, i think it's just the angle it's at and the quality of the one over the other. Your photos look rubbish on my monitor, should i get a new one?
Rod 27-May-2006 11:35
It might be a bigger screen boofhead but not necessarily better as the main reason you're seeing the image in the shadows is the generic LCDs are too contrasty & don't show the graduations in tonal range in the picys. I printed this shot out & the image is only just barely visible. Gawd knows wot your screens are making our picys look like.

I'm in the queue of boofheads here. When i first saw this on the other computer i couldn't see how this could possibly be lighting the focal point and thought you were trying it on as rod's an easy touch. Now on the other computer with a bigger and better screen i can clearly make out that the dark bits are shadows and the light is indeed lighting the focal point which is them luverly eyes and great hairdo. This is very good

Back on my monitor now & couldn't see any detail in the shadows so I downloaded your picy & printed it to see if me monitor was right. I could just barely make out some detail in the shadows on the print & have now adjusted me monitor 10 points brighter than it was & I can just make out some detail in the shadow now. Nowhere near as much detail as on the LCD screen on the lap top though. So we will have to put up with these screen discrepancies I suppose:-)

No PS'sg here Rod... as I said... it is just natural light coming on to the photo from a window. I just did a slight level adjustment. I was surprised that tungsten WB worked well here. I rarely ever use it. jano

Ah I should have asked wot the dark lines were, I thought you PS them in. I'm on the missis laptop at the moment & I can see details of the photo in the dark lines now showing these dark lines as shadows. The LCD screen has too much contrast for picys so we have a problem when posters upload from their LCDs & others view them on CRTs. On the lap top this does look on topic & showing a good eye Jano. When me daughter Holly gets off me computer I will have a go at adjusting me monitor to see if I can get some detail in the shadows here without messing up me monitor. I can see your collar & shoulders now I'm sure it was all quite black on my monitor. Now I've seen it I bet I will just see a little on me monitor now. This works very well now darling:-)

Actually i noted last nite how blue my eyes were back then. My eyes are now green/blue or hazel depending on the day and how the light hits them. I think it's not unusual for the color of people's eyes to change over the years. Thanks for commenting Aam and Sueanne. jano

Hi Sue. I know that, that's why I mentioned it. Her kids look a lot like her when she was a kid herself. Don't you think.

Btw J, didn't know you have blue eyes. Hmm, or did your parents cheat :) I'm sure they didn't have Photoshop by then :)

aam1234, that is Jano at '5' , not her kids ;)
aam1234 26-May-2006 17:03
I don't know Rod, from what I understand, it seems, to me at least, that the pic is on topic. But it's you topic so you know better.

J, lovely eyes, lovely kid. Also, your kids look a lot like you (God bless).
janewigginsphotography26-May-2006 15:13
Well the light is coming across the image at an angle, thus the shadows to top and bottom of the photograph. You want to see a shadow of the frame? Why do you NOW want to see frames? :) jano
Rod 26-May-2006 13:53
Bleeding L Jano wot a lovely story & with your Mum going into a nursing home it makes it really hard to say this is off topic dunit............................ ...........................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................It's off topic darling:-)
We unlike you can't see the light on the picy, to us that's the colour of the picy & there's no sense of light hitting the picy. Maybe if we saw the whole picy with a shadow from the frame etc it might work:-) You have lovely eyes.
