At Britt's suggestion I tried the shot of these flowers from the opposite angle with the flowers in the shade and the sun in background. What do you think?

Nice variation on flower theme. * I would selectively sharpen the central part which is supposed to be in focus

I think white flowers in direct sun light are difficult photograpy subjects, even if not back lit :-)

I like the composition of this one better Neo, although I also liked the dark background of the original as it was a nice contrast with the white flowers. Very pretty. :-) CJ

I thought those blown highlights might trigger a reaction from the BH police. One of those BHs are the sun itself. Locking exposure on the sun probably wouldn't have been to good for my G6 ;-)
I do appreciate the tips though and I will continue to work on my flower shots! I join these challenges to learn.

Until you get to know more about exposures Neo you would do well to always expose for the highlights. There are still plenty of blown highlights in the new shot.
If you can try this again Neo then take your exposure on the sky & then lock the exposure, you can then recompose on the flowers focus & shoot. You will end up with a better picy for processing then. There's nothing much you can do with blown highlights in the processing stage. This is how I exposed the similar looking Frangipani shot in this gallery, I just aimed the camera at the sky & then just pressed the exposure lock button recomposed on the flower & clicked. I then used the dodge (lighten) tool when I processed it to lighten some of the highlights where needed. This will work quite well for both of the shots you have posted.

This is a pretty shot, but I think the sunlight on the white is a bit much, compared to the really dark bg. It's a pretty decent shot considering the shooting circumstances. I avoid full sunlight/shade with all I have. :)
