Beautiful rose and nice subtle color * I am not sure about this green thing in the background, it distracts my eye from the rose

We have had quite a few thunderstorms here in Paris since I took this picture. Of course all of the roses have bloomed since, so a reshoot is now out of the question. Maybe I'll just go out and shoot the newly bloomed roses ;)

Beautiful rose David and while I like the idea of the watering can in the background, I too think it would make for a better composition if it was offset from the rose so the stem isn't almost right on the spout. It would be fun to play around with this composition as the rose is a beautiful color and I like it with that green can. :-) CJ

I like the composition a lot here. I didn't see an earlier version to compare it to. The rose seems to lack puch in some way- just a little. Maybe different light conditions would help?

This is better David - again I'm seeing more of a flat image here without shadows and highlights to add some interest. I do like the watering can very much, but I think its place is more in the shadows and offset from the rose's stem. This should be almost in bloom by now :) Have you tried in late afternoon sunlight or perhaps with some artificial light for some contrast? You got something here. jano

I don't think it's the watering can that needs changing (Although the can's spout follows the same line behind the flower's stem)...I would change the color of the background as it is too close to the color of the flower. Not enough contrast.

Made a couple more changes. I like the watering can so I'm keeping it in.

The bucket is called a watering can and I think can fit the background nicely, although I would try to put it in the shadows or backen it up to darken the green. I think David this Rose should be blooming very soon...so an early morning sunlight or late afternoon light would enhance this, and bring out some depth more in shadows? jano

And you have very nice and uniform background there which you could take advantage of.

Honestly, I would ditch that bucket (don't know what it's called in English). Without that thing it's a big improvement over the last pic. I would also get a little closer. Good work there David.

OK. Here's the new and improved rosebud. Please do comment. This is very instuctive for me.

Hi David. Generally speaking, the first thing I look for when taking pics is the background then the subject, but maybe that's just me. This pic has good potential, so it would be nice if we can see another try. Good luck mate.

You're right. I'll try a reshoot. I could just kick myself for making such a basic mistake.

This is way too over-exposed...too much light...and the background is not appropriate for this flower shot. If you can reshoot...try a different angle (with some uniform background) and reduce the exposure by atleast 1 stop - RK
