I love this shot Rod - It gets my vote. Great water, lighting and the surfer being half out of the frame doesn't bother me at all - it may even add to the visual tension of the shot. I like the almost straight diagonal line from the top of the wave to the surfer. I also love the pelican shot. I think that one is hysterically funny and I hope there is a challenge where you can enter it some day as it would get my vote too! You could make a greeting card out of that one - just add a nice frame and a sig! :-) CJ

If you don't vote for this Carole you will be in big poo poo:-)

Thanks Rod! :-) CJ

It would be nice to see more of the surfer, but not seeing him doesn't really take away from the magnitude of the wave this guy is facing :) Great shot Rod! jano

Thanks all:-) There's no more of the surfer in the shot RK just some more of the right side of the big wave. It's funny init as for me, the half of the surfer is wot makes the shot.

Another in agreement, the capture of the wave is superb, very clear and crisp but still you can feel the power and speed of the water. I'd love to see more of the surfer though . Also more of the retreating swell to the surfers left as that conveys a great sense of power too. Bloody good capture of the wave regardless looking straight down the barrel.

Rod, like this picture..but do agree with Sueannerush. In terms of tension...feel there is enough of it in the wave. Your capture of the wave is great...if this is a crop...feed us more of the surfer.
Great job.

Wonderful, Rod! What a great sense of scale this gives us, we can easily see how very big that wave is. Scary! ~Sharon

Thanks all:-) Somehow I like the bloke cut off Sue Anne, I don't know if it's because it adds tension (Ahhrtiiiisticness):-) No Mary Anne there was a rock out crop that I could walk out on so I was side on to the waves. You should have known a lazy sod like me wouldn't paddle out that far just for an ole picy:-)

Ditto to what CJ said. Would like to add that the inside of the wave is so beautiful! You need longer zoom Rod if you will take such (awesome) photos.

Great wave shot! The guy looks like he's thinking "Holy Cr*p - What did I get myself into!" CJ

I love the capture of the wave here, Rod. Were you on a surfboard yourself?

Nice capture of the wave Rod.... though the surfer could be more into the picy :)

Good one Rod, my favorite of two wet and wild shots.
