Mary Anne, I'm not an expert; this is what I'd do: use the lasso around the head and shoulders. With a mouse it may not be too accurate :-( I don't think it is needed to include the uniform floor. do a gaussian blur - adjust the radius to taste (2-5 should be enough here, I think). de-select. use the blur tool to smoothen the effect where lasso was a bit off and it shows as a "step". Probably there are other ways (or even better ones).

I'm not great at PPing either Mary Anne! Maybe one of our resident experts will be able to offer some suggestions. And in a way, it may not be so bad seeing her sort of looking off in that direction as the TV isn't on and you can almost imagine that she is off in her own world. CJ
CJ, believe it or not, I have blurred the background. I'm not very good at that magnetic lasso thingy, so when I tried a gaussian blur it looked terrible. I ended up using "smart blur" for it, and this is about as far as I could go without making the background break down into fake looking blocks of color. I still haven't got the image where I'd like it to be. Any suggestions?

Isn't that the universal sign for choking?
Didn't she read the poem? it goes "when I am an old woman I shall wear purple...and a red hat that doesn't suit me" or something like that. Maybe she doesn't think she's old yet. Only as old as you feel!
Sorry for the jokes, I just really don't know how I feel about this picture. Not in a bad way...it's a thinker.

This is a very nice shot Mary Anne. I wonder if there is some way you could blur the background more to keep the eye from wondering to the table and TV. This is a very thought provoking image and I like it a lot. CJ
