6000°C

Inspired by National Geographic and NASA, Original Image by TRACE, NASA.

It may look wild, but this image of the simulated solar surface, captured by a CTF challenger, was described by scientists as "a very very quiet day on the sun." In other words, no spectacular loops, no flares or CMEs. Even as satellites like TRACE and SOHO have brought new understanding of solar dynamics, the sun holds on to many secrets. Our stormy star is, in the words of one solar physicist: "Complicated, mysterious, and beautiful and thus worthy of imitation for CTF100" :-)

Note from the photographer: do not try this at home, as it may burn a hole on your sensor ;-)

I really like your interpretation of the quiet time of the Sun's surface.
