Thanks for the comments. Yes, I used ISO 800 to get the shutter speed necessary to handhold this lens at 400mm.

Great picture.
The high ISO was most likely because of the long lens and he wanted to reduce any shake.

I love the composition here, but wondering why such a high ISO? I think it added to the graininess of this and didn't really help in the capture. It seems to be pretty bright out. However, I know when you are that far away from the subject, you do what you can. Love that tree thing he's perched on! :)
I don't necessarily see any blown areas of this image, and see the far pastel hill in the background. I would probably have used some layers to make the tree and hawk stand out more against the fair background, and add some contrast. I like the composition as my eye is drawn to the hawk even with the background!!! Good capture Garrett. jano
Thanks for the comments. I positioned myself so that the hawk would be surrounded by as much of the bright green as possible.
Canoneer, you need to adjust your monitor according to the grayscale ramp on the gallery page. If you do, there should be no blown out areas in this image, and you should even see a faint, pinkish mountain in the background above the hawk. Maybe I should have darkened the background, but I didn't want to ruin the bright green.

Very nice shot Garrett with a very unusual background colouring. I think people will either like it or dislike it................I like it:-)
