Not a general rule, sharpen up to your liking on a per photo basis :)

Techo,
Thanks for the advice and i hope i'm not bothering you much....:)
You said to unsharp mask 2ice...Is that a general rule, or just for this image?

Hello again Canoneer :)

To selectivy sharpen up areas of the photo, there are two ways of which I know of.
1) Use the "Sharpen tool" with the Strength set to low and just go over the spots you want to appear sharper
2) Use the selection tools to select the areas you want sharpened and apply "Unsharp Mask" , you can apply the sharpness twice , once with the radius set to less than "1", and amount set to high > 30, the 2nd sharpen pass with a higher radius and lower amount.

The nice thing with fountains and stationary objects is that you CAN bracket your exposures. Until you get to know your camera and just how accurate the LCD really is, it helps a lot. Bracketing can give you some really dramatic differences in your images. And it only takes a second to do it. And if your using film, and for example using 100 ISO film speed, just switch your setting on your camera to 50, then to 100, then to 200 and you have 3 bracketed exposures. When I shoot with film I always underexpose by half the film speed. Okay, I'm done writing my book now. :)

To Techo---

Britt -
Thanks again!!
I have very little post processing experience, so until recently i always tried to adjust my exposure the way i liked my subject...Offcourse at the time, i had just bought my G6 and it's LCD somewhow fooled me. Anyway, in my LCD it showed that without exp.comp. the statue would seem underexposed...so...here we are. I now can cooperate better with my G6...:) - No i rarely do bracketting...
Techo -
If i could borrow your knowledge for a while...
I like the statue's sharpening but i think i like the fountain's water unsharpened
What do you think about that?
Can you post a way to do this? (just now learning photoshop)...
Ooops!!!It really is a bit tilted isn't it???I didn't noticed before (hehehe)
And...sorry, i missed the date rule...
Thank you both for your warm welcome!!!
ctfchallenge01-Dec-2005 01:08
noticed both of your photos have older dates. Photos in eligible need to be taken between these dates:
Challenge Begins: Thursday, November 24, 2005 at 00:00:00 GMT
Challenge Ends: Monday, December 5, 2005 at 23:59:59 GMT

The dates change from challenge to challenge.

and don't forget , all entries posted must have files sizes equal or less than 150KB(153,600 bytes)

Again, warm welcome to you and hope to see more of your photos posted.

Welcome Canoneer :)

This is a really nice capture of the scene. If I may suggest a little touchups.
1.rotate the pic just a bit counter clockwise to level it
2.re-crop
3.add some contrast
4.Sharpen up the pic, whole picture then the face selectivly

end result:

will remove the above posted pic on your command ;)

If you want mercy, just tell Rod to stay away! But, I must say, I kind of ripped into his entries this morning. ::sigh:: Normally, I'm the nice one! This is really pretty. It's just a tiny bit tipped but I'm not sure it really takes away from the composition of the photo. I would be interested to see what it would look like with the water streams coming all the way down to hit the water, but then you might lose the pretty details of the fountain itself. It has much nicer detail on a lower exp.comp and lower ISO this way doesn't it? You probably could have brought out even more details in the fountain with no exposure comp. Did you bracket all exposures? ~Britt
