This is so pleasing to the eye with all the muted colors of pink and blue. It would be really cool to see these glowing in the dark. Learned a lot about Zooanthids! Thanks Steve for the lesson. jano

Steve,
Maybe this is the cure I need for my muscular disease! Bahaha..if not a cure, it would surely make the pain go away! hehehe ~Britt

Very cool colorful shot, nice work.

Britt - you certainly wouldn't want to eat these, they contain a toxin callen Palytoxin which affects the nervous and muscular system. It is one of the most powerful toxins known to man and there is no antitoxin. I know of one person who was splitting them in a bucket, while his back was turned his dog stuck his nose in the bucket (as they do). Twelve hours later the dog died.
Cat - I'll try and get a night shot, but as you can see from the exif data, even this shot with the lights on was pushing it.
alexoki - I am hoping to go to the red sea next year and do some diving on the reefs. I can't wait to see these great creatures in their natural environment.
Thanks for the comments. - Steve

Thanks for the comments everyone. Just to confirm these are Zooanthids, which are corals and each polyp is an individual animal. They grow in these large mats, propagating my dividing and creating 2 new polyps. This shot was taken in my tropical marine tank, where these are spreading like weeds. They absorb UV light which makes them glow after dark... very cool animals. - Nature lesson over... - Steve

Way cool... not plant, creature, right? My guess is that this is in an aquarium somewhere. I just love the colors and design of these dudes all clumped together.
