Whatever I'm seeing (or not seeing, probably) in the background, I still think the mood would be strengthened by cropping them out. Only my opinion, of course.

Thanks Mary Anne! But I should tell You one secret ;-) - the "blue sky" it's seeshore, and "white clouds" there are mountains... maby sharpness isn't enough.. A.Jarosz

It's certainly a desolate scene. I think I'd crop the top near where the darker water ends. The blue sky and white clouds seem to detract from the otherwise somber mood.
