I really like this a lot! Great storytelling and nice use of negative space! -- Bruce

Thanks for all of your comments, you have certainly given me a lot to think about and to apply to the next time I try to do something like this. This was a great learning experience! ~Sharon

Sharon - excellent creative idea here! Absent any grain remarks at present, this might have been better shot with the subject trying to flag down a car, thus giving it no need to have any motion in this shot. Or a hitchhiker's thumb as the focus. Something that didn't portray movement would work well. Now as to graininess, I don't mind it too much as headlights do pick up dust particles in the air and some graininess is expected in a photo such as this. I would probably do some neatimage, but perhaps not so much as what was posted. Certainly a creative idea, a hard image to capture, and I think you did very well. :) jano

You've got two very creative and well executed shots here, Sharon. You've really mastered using backlighting and the consequent shadows effective. I have mixed feelings about the graininess but leaning toward Pfehlauer's cleaned up version. The light outlining the person is really good.

Thanks, Pfehlauer! I don't mind a bit, thanks for taking the time. I will look into Neat image now that I have seen what it can do. Although, in order to use it I will have to upgrade my Photoshop 4, not a bad idea anyway. On the other hand, I am not sure I actually like this particular image without the grain. It is supposed to be gritty after all! ~Sharon

Sharon, hope you don't mind, otherwise let me know and I delete the pic.
I just processed your image in Neatimage...no more than 5 seconds, with all defaults settings... just as an alternative...

I like the idea, but *, I agree with Abs, the noise is to evident. And then, the person in fron of the car is not moving... one sees that the person is standing and doing as if she/he where running...

To get rid ofthe noise, just turn doen the ISO control... this shot should be ok with iso 400 or below.... other alternative is using a noise reduction software... (neatimage, ninja).

Thanks so much, iso! Any hints on getting rid of grain in post processing? ~Sharon

I really like this but the thumbnail promised me more. You're idea is good, as is the lighting - it gives the nice subtleties of colouration throughout, and the lens flare works and is unobtrusive. My main gripe is the noise - I feel it is a little too distracting. If it were silky smooth you'd have a killer pic that would probably resemble CG. Still one my faves though.
