That really emphasises the patterns now, terrific. I'm surprised the highlights look brighter though. But like you say it does show the harshness of the sun. Nice work.
Here it is with much darker shadows. I hope I didn't over do it! The original can be seen here:http://www.pbase.com/elips/image/48315452. I think the darker shadows emphasize the harsh mid-day sunlight, and it was hot out there! ~Sharon
Thanks, guys! Rod, I will try darkening the shadows. Iso, the race just ended, there is a half hour until the next horses run, just enough time to get back into the grandstand to place a bet. I thought this guy looked kind of dejected, sitting alone after the end of the race with discarded racing forms all around him, perhaps trying to figure out where he went wrong in his betting. ~Sharon
I like the way you've isolated this guy in the middle of the large seating area. Where is everyone els?

Really like the lines, then they are broken by that gentleman. Beautiful.

Terrific work Sharon a great candidate for a B&W shot with the subject backlit & the patterns of the chairs plus shadows. I don't think you need so much detail on the shadow side of the bloke & I would darken the whole shot for darker shadows. Really well done.
