Thank you for your comments, Lee and Yvonne. While I've continued looking for something that may (or may not) looke good in b & w, I'm coming to your way of thinking, Yvonne. Just shoot what I like, and then see how it looks in b & w.

Mary Anne, I love this shot. The clarity of the rocks and shore and the contrasting water and reflections is really nice. Perfect black and white shot. I agree with the go figure, all of my best laid "plans" have failed so far. One of my students commented yesterday (seeing my frustration with this black and white) that perhaps I needed to just go out and shoot what i liked as opposed to what "works". I think he was right on. Yvonne
It's interesting that I've taken a number of shots with b & w in mind since this challenge has started, but this was not one of them. However, this one is probably more striking than any of the others. Go figure.

With that light background which works great in B&W would spoil a colour shot, so I can see why you say this looks better in B&W. The tones in the rocks look great.
Thank you both. You know, it is pretty in color, but when I changed it to b & w, the hazy green background became this lovely muted gray that made the rocks and backlighted foliage on the right really pop out in a way the color version doesn't. My husband and I just stumbled upon this place, and we stayed for a couple of hours just enjoying the peacefulness of the surroundings.

Great picture, Mary Anne! I like the balance between dark and bright parts, the composision, the mood...

PS and I don't care about the colored version :-)

Oh i say. I love this photo. It should be crying out for being in colour with water and trees and sky and rocks etc. but it works so well for me as it is like few others do here. I can feel the mood of a languid, hot afternoon and hear the buzz of insects and occasional splash as a fish breaks the surface. Excellent
