Thanks, Rod! Lighting is the problem isn't it. I must have taken 50 shots of this with what lighting I have (in my kitchen! definitely not professional!). I was thinking that there might be a post processing solution, like making a mask and burning in just the wood, but I am so new to using Photoshop I am not even sure how to go about that or if it is even the correct way to go. I am looking into taking some basic Photoshop courses so I can at least deal properly with the images I take. Thanks for your input!

Look Sharon, we make the suggested improvements but you have to figure out how to do them. As we wouldn't have a clue:-)
The easiest way to enhance the texture is to have side lighting against the grain of the wood but I would think this could bugger up the rest of the shot unless you're good with setting up lighting. You wouldn't want to lose the shadows you have now as they look so good.
Thanks, RK, I would certainly like to try it and see how it looks but I have no idea how to go about doing that. Would you have some thoughts on what I would need to do to bring out the wood? Any help would be appreciated!
Sharon
Thanks, Jano, I now have much greater respect for what studio photographers accomplish after spending hours trying to get the pages and the light just right.
