An excellent capture and you've done very well considering the difficult lighting conditions. Theres a feeling of warmth.

PS3... yup, I think Fred's scripts won't work there. RawShooter Essentials is standalone and I've heard good things about it. And you can't beat the free price tag :o) I can't use it fully, though since my CPU is an Athlon and it works with Intel.

Thanks Guys!
Nugar, I just have elements 3. I don't mean to intimidate, everything I have learned is from thes e challenges.
Rod, I tried the highlights and shadows in elements 3 and do not like. This was shot elvalutative metered. Had to move quick. The dog does not pose for long.

The kit lens is very nice and bright. Lacks range.

I have just weaved some magic on this shot with the Shadows & Highlight filter & the changes would make your mind boggle Lee. Sadly all the changes were for the worse:-)
Rod 17-Apr-2005 00:09
Nothing wrong with the kit lens is there? a very good shot so soon. Where & how did you focus & meter on Lee? I don't think you have PSCS do you? as me & Alexei like to olay with shots like this in the Shadows & highlight filter:-)

I think Shu meant that if you were tough competition with the G3, God save us from you and the XT!!!

About the shadow.. yes, if it was contrasty because of the Sun, it may be too little that can be done. For cases like this, I greatly recommend Fred Miranda's Velvia Vision, which has the option for faking more dynamic range. "Opens" the shadows. And you can do that without saturating the image. At $25, it's a steal.

Also, watch for RawShooter Essentials if you haven't already. Free RAW processing from some ot the creators of C1.http://www.pixmantec.com/products/rawshooter_essentials.html

Thanks All!

Nugar, I took both of your suggestions. Thanks.
Shu, It's me theFly. Just a new camera.
Paul, Don't know what to do about the shadow. The sun was bright and the dog is black.

Very good interpretation Lee, i particularly like the capture of the cat lolling about with half an eye on you. The only criticism i have is the dark area between the dogs paws looks unnaturally dark on my monitor and you can't see what is dog and what is shadow.

Welcome aboard, Lee! Great start! Touch competition for some of us, but it never hurts to raise the bar. Shu

If life was only so easy for us :) Nice capture.

Congratulations on your first DSLR post, Lee!

I think you'll find that the G3 was/is an excellent school to prepare yourself for a DSLR.

About *, the only thing I would do is clone the vertical redish line and maybe crop a bit the black area, so it gets more panoramic.
