Victoria*

Victoria

I caught the overnight train from Adelaide to Melbourne in '88. Couldn't sleep so spent the journey leaning out of the window. Early morning somewhere in rural Victoria i heard the ringing of the bell of the level crossing just ahead as we shot through. Photo was taken with my daggy old Olympus Trip that has been around the world with me a few times before it got full of sand and stopped working.

Thanks for the comments Mary Anne, i know exactly what you mean regarding the train. This photo though has been one of my favourites for years as it captured that train journey so well for me and i suddenly remembered a sort of triangle in the image and thought i'd post it as i never need any encouragement to put this one on a site. When i first got it developed i couldn't for the life of me work out what the funny mettalic thing was on the right, then i remembered i was leaning out of a moving train:>)

Regards
Paul

Paul, I decided to take a closer look at this one because the thumbnail always makes me pause. There's much to like about it--the soft colors, the glow of the rising sun, and hazy horizon in the distance--but for some reason it just doesn't seem to work for me. After studying it for awhile, I think it's because so little of the side of the train shows...it's like something just stuck there, not integrated into the photo. If the tracks had curved to the left a bit, giving a long line of tracks or train heading toward the light, you would have had an absolute stunner, IMHO. Still, a worthy effort.

Gday Paul, You must be wondering why such a good shot hasn’t received any comments. Maybe it's only you & me that thinks it's a ripper. Well done mate. Try commenting on other entries & you may atrract comments to yours, I think that works sometimes:-)
