Contrasty is a range of tones that's too great for the film/sensor. The range of tones in this shot look to be within the sensors range.

I don't think you could call this shot contrasty, that's the beauty of shooting before 10am & after 3pm. There's detail in the shadows & the highlights which you won't get on a digital camera in contrasty conditions. I hope this challenge has turned everyone on to the wonders of the light in the early & later parts of the day. Very nice shot Gayle.

Although I don't usually like contrasty images (and God knows that's almost all I can take in our harsh Sun), I find interesting the S curve formed by the lighted portion of the image.
