Brian, I think I prefer it with the shadow the way it is, but I went back to the original to see if I had cropped the left edge. It's exactly the same, so I guess we'll never know...unless that shell is waiting for me the next time I'm in Florida.

This one is just splendid Mary Anne… I just love the ocean and you captured it well with this photograph! As merely a point of discussion, if you had the chance to do this same shot again do you think that including the entire shadow of the shell would add to the photograph? I can’t decide without seeing it, but I would think that it would further emphasize the time of day with a long shadow. As it is currently I'm left wondering what’s on the other side of the left boarder. What do you or others think? Brian

Thanks, all. My sister and her husband were looking at me like I was a bit nuts to get down in the wet sand to get a closeup of a shell, so it's nice to know that someone (besides me) appreciates it.

This is just lovely! Composition, DOF and light are all spot on.

Nice one... I missed what you cloned, but looks great now. Like the DOF, and how the waves still show up well, and how the shadow compliments the geometry of the water. Spot on the focus! Makes me want to pack my bags and go pick up that shell! - Tom

Done. Thanks, Techo. Funny how we sometimes don't notice the most obvious things in our photos.

Nice post Marry Anne :-) I was thinking of photographing something similar for the challenge. Just a sugggestion, if you want to keep this crop maybe clone out the object in the left hand corner?
