You did a great job with the lighting, no blown highlights and enough light to get out the details but not too harshly. The only thing that bothers me is the pose for the shot, at first glance it resembles too much of a hand shake than a grab. The thumb didn't bother me that much till you mentioned it ;)

If you think you could improve the thumb then go ahead for sure, but you would need reasonable PS skills as the thumb is right in the sight line. I had the same thing on my silly couch shot & my feet had the look but everything I did to get rid of it looked really terrible. So don't spoil the shot just for that minor thing. I would leave the other shot up as there's no time to re shoot.

Rod,
Thanks. Phew, I was hoping for some response to the (*) on this one and was beginning to get a bit downhearted that there was none. I was relatively pleased with the lighting here and the PS work - first time i've combined a desk lamp with a flash and a white background and got anything i'm pleased with. I too was a bit displeased with Emm's thumb - it looks like she has dirty hands, not sure what happened there but I can assure you she doesn't! You think I should PS it?
I would have liked us to have model-like skin also to make this like a stock photo but unfortunately I do have hairy arms!
Yes, the two pics are a bit similar in style aren't they.... I guess the second was just an experiment in case the first didn't work out...I may even take it down.
Thanks,
Paul

Nice idea Paul, the only thing that I would alter is the darkness around Emma's thumb nail. Both good shots, but for viewing side by side I think a different colour backdrop on one of them would make the shots stand on their own better as different shots. Well done.
