Thanks a lot, Shu!

Can I comment again? My partner just said "Ohhhhh! That's an interesting picture! Outstanding!" (I wanted to pass along the kudos.) Shu

Norway...how interesting. I've noticed the same thing with your photos...so many of them could have been shot in the small New England towns I'm familiar with.

Well, this is at the opposite side of the pond. Trondheim, Norway. I must say, though, that some of your shots, Mary Anne, look familiar to me too. Apparently, you have similar winters and even similar light at times
ctfchallenge28-Dec-2004 22:05
Yes, much better this way. Town looks familiar to me, too. I say it's Burlington, VT.

Much better, car is not an issue. What town is that, looks familiar?

Better. :) ~ Lonnit

Thanks for discussion, gals and guys. I like more the first version too, so I put it back desaturating car lights a bit
Rod 28-Dec-2004 09:43
Yes this drastic crop has lost the point of the shot, I agree with the posters below.
ctfchallenge28-Dec-2004 06:59
Stay with your first instincts. I knew why you left the car in - it was the lesser of the evils. You lose way too much of the story in this crop. Keep the car just tone down the tail lights. Or maybe you could clone a snow-covered evergreen over it! LOL! ~ Lonnit

I like the original image. The composition is more interesting for the reasons Mary Anne pointed out. Shu

Alexeig, I think this version has greater unity in the composition, but I agree with you about how a more horizontal image emphasizes the force of the wind. Maybe if you just toned down the red in the tail lights in the other version you wouldn't feel the need to crop out the car or the snow below her feet. I also like seeing more of the buildings in the background. The original photo, which makes the woman a smaller part of the image, gives more of a sense of her relative powerlessness against the elements.

Thanks, Rod and Lonnit
Actually, I do not like the car too. I wanted to satisfy the conflicting needs of
- show some color background which would make visible snowflakes
- keep the girl off center
- keep composition horisontal to emphasize the wind
Tell me if you like this cut more

You're quite right Rod. The whole old-fashionedness of it makes the car out of place. If the tail lights were desaturated a bit it would be better, but it would be best if the car weren't there at all. Other than that it is a good shot. ~ Lonnit
Rod 27-Dec-2004 03:09
You captured the girl very well, but I find the car disconcerting maybe it's the red tail lights.
