I like your image and it's warm colors. Might also be effective in B & W ?
This is really great how all you guys / gals are chiipping in with your comments to assist in improving on an already nice image. Isn't this exactly what these "challenges / photo assignments" are all about? :-) Markjay

Nice!!

Played with it one more time. I like it better now. This pic wasn't cropped at all - it's just the way I took it. The amount of detail is either the best the camera can do or the best I can do with the camera (probably the latter). - Irv

Irv , If I may suggest... How about you try to reshoot this one in closer up, so you have less to crop? so you'll have more detail to work with, then you can do more photoshopping ;-)

Irv, I forgot to tell you: After you do the process, use the eraser tool and erase the leather portion from the adjustment layers. In that way, you would be applying the effect to the table finish so it looks more dark, to the clock so it looks more golden but leave the leather as it was with more detail. You may also want to erase the portion of the highlights, so they remain as in the original layer. Also remember that the transparency of the adjustment layers can be tweaked to control the resulting picture to your taste.

Personally I think that with this look now, it can work even as an advertising. it looks great to me. Of course, there's always the possibility that my monitor is showing wrong colors!

Ran this through PSP8. Not sure I like it as well - lost the detail in the leather. - Irv

i like the composition in this re-done image and post-processing in Nugar's image. If you want PS comaparable program, try GIMP 2.0...its free. I have used PS (full version) in the school and havent found much diff in GIMP, atleast not at the level of post-processing i do. -Abstract

Hi Irv, I'm sure that if it can be done on PS, it can be done in PSP, which is a great program. I uploaded the picture here:http://saludbucal.net/gg the picture is 36231029.watchworks2-post.jpg

I don't place the complete URL here since then the image would show up right here in the post. Hope you like it!

PS. I checked and yes, it can be done nicely in PSP8 just following the same instructions.

Nugar - I'm on a budget. Haven't ever been able to afford PS. I have PSP8, worked on the image in that, but honestly can't see much difference. I need to develop an eye for this stuff, but I'm not sure what I'm after with the sharpening. Would be glad to see the image after your work on it. - Irv

Leather, wood, and brass. Nice warm image.

Hi Irv, It looks quite better now. Now, with some post-processing, you have some winning material here. I did some Soft Light Sharpening as described here:http://www.pbase.com/ctfchallenge/image/31735245 and then I took the sharpened layer and duplicated it. The image looks just great. If you wish I can post it so you can see the results.

Changed this pic. I think it's a lot better. - Irv

I agree with Don. Clockwork is a classical image for complexity. I thought of that, but I don't have such a clock :(

Since you have an asterisk, I'll suggest that complexity in this case is probably better up close. If you don't have the macro tools to do that, however, perhaps you can back up slightly so that everything is in frame. I spend too much time wondering why the fob is chopped off. Good idea, though, and lovely watch.
