Greasy spoon... err... fork. *

My office studio

As I was seating in front of my PC tonight, eating a plateful of "Carne Frita con Patacones" (fried meat with double-fried green plantains), I wondered, what can be more comfortable than eating unhealthy food in front of your favourite addiction?

Plantains are delicious in all their colors, green, you make these patacones, yellow, you can fry the also, they taste sweet. And finally black you can make them with sugar and convert them to "Plátano en tentación", which literally translated mean temptation plantain, a very sweet dish suitable to eat with "arroz con pollo", panamanian style, which in turn is like a paella, but made with chicken. I'm hungry now!

Yum!!! Gotta try that one... minus the ketchup!

Interesting. I've never had green plantains before. We always wait till they turn black. I must try this -- completely different dish. -- Victor

Hi Tracy, thanks for your comments :)

Here's the recipe:

Patacones (Fried Green Plantain)

3 green plantains
1 teaspoon salt
Oil

Peel plantains and cut into ½ inch slices. Fry in hot oil until golden. Place on cutting board and smash the slices with a glass bottle or rolling pin. Sprinkle with salt and return to pan to fry again. Fry until crispy. Drain on paper towels and serve immediately. Ketchup is optional! 6-8 Servings.

Please be aware that the plantains should be really green. Green bananas can be used too.

Enjoy!

Nugar, those colours are totally awesome, and the grease totally scrumptious! So what's the recipe for fried plantains?? I've only ever rubbed them on my kid's owies, and never thought of eating them!

Cheers - Tracy!

The thing is, I have a day job, completely unrelated to PCs, but I also do websites as a side business, and lately I've been (luckily) busy with that :)

Good one :-) I sit in front of the pc for so long, that I've decided I will not eat breakfast, lunch or dinner there anymore, a snack is still okay ;-)

PhotoNUT: Yes, there's something... dangerous about eating near the PC that makes it oh so good :D

Shu: Thanks for your words :)

Rod: Hmm, do you think so? Is it electronic enough?

That’s a good idea for a photo, computers and food go hand in hand. I was going to post a photo of me at my computer, but decided not to, but after I seen this photo, I think I will.
