Flip-flop in a beautiful pose! Great color and composition which really lights up the prospect of a lazy day off. Shu

Andy... I'll gladly trade with you... I think Natal may want to come down with me too!! :-)

Hey Tracey... I'm with you there. I'm in Edmonton and the trees are already yellow... we have already had our first snowfall of the season. I miss being in Brazil (Natal).

thanks nugar, jude, alexeig, and tracy for the nice comments. chancletas is also the word that i found in my dictionary which i didn´t know before this challenge so i have already learned something. byron, from the very small part of brazil that i know it´s a beautiful country and port. is a beautiful lang. don´t worry about being off topic josé:-) tracy maybe we could switch places because fall is probably my favorite season and i´m missing it this year:-)

If you're trying to make me jealous, you've succeeded... not only an awesome photo with wonderful colours, but a great summery subject... right when I'm drowning in the throes of fall, with promises of a loooong winter to come!

I grew up in Brazil and we wore these all the time. But there they are called "chinelo's" or "chinelas" The most popular brand is Havaiana's so some people just call it that. -Byron

Andy, (aha! we now know you're Andy and not AtotheV): I must tell you again, I consider this a WOW picture. You have raised the bar *a lot*. I wonder if I can leap that high...
Nugar18-Sep-2004 12:31
Hi Jose,

No, never heard of "jeanas". Also, I didn't know that chancletas was used elsewhere! I've heard chanclas, and also heard the native, raw hide sandals named different ways. Here in Panama they are "cutarras", but in Mexico, "guaraches".

Excellent color and I like the way the sandals are positioned.

Nugar just gave you the answer, Andrew. And I just realized that it is a word that is in the "Diccionario de la Real Academia Española". So I guess is not a Guatemalan word after all. You learn something every day... Though some people also often call these "jeanas" (sp?). Maybe because they wear them with blue JEANS. Go figure. Have you heard that word before, Nugar?
-José Pablo (Sorry for the OT, Andrew)

AtotheV, this is just a great picture. Love the colors, composition, textures, ethnicity. You're dangerous with that camera!

Jose Pablo, what is the Guatemalteca word for those? Here in Panama we call them "chancletas".
Guest 17-Sep-2004 22:09
Thaaaaaaanks mommmm and thanks José:-) I don´t know the guatemalan spanish word for these yet, you´ll have to let me know. I´m pretty much situated at an internet cafe near where i´m living. I installed pse2 onto one of the computers but I´m still adjusting to the resolution of the monitor. It´s a little harder to pick out the color and detail. It´ll all get sorted out though;-)

Andy, I would have recognized those flip-flops anywhere. The colors are pure Guatemaltecan. Nice, very nice. mom

Hi Andrew,
It's good to see that although you are away from home, you’re still participating in the challenge (and be the 1st to post here), but better is to see that you are having a relaxing time in Antigua. I like the combination of colors in your picture. (Do you already know the word in "guatemalan spanish" for those? I bet you'll find it funny :) )
-José Pablo.
