Eighth Place - Bond, Mantis Bond *

Panama, outside my workplace

Today, as I finished my work day, I found this mantis. This is the best I could do with two persons waiting for me since I've offered them a ride :o(

It's hard to take macro when they're looking at you with that "are you done yet" look.

Canon PowerShot G3
1/60s f/8.0 at 28.8mm iso50 with Flash full exif

other sizes: small medium original auto

Thanks AtotheV, also, my workmates being non-photographers, they would prefer a dead-center full-body shot of the mantis where you could clearly see the leaves on the background!

Nugar, you caught it with a good expression. It's funny how people's opinions vary on what they think is a good photograph. I think that your angle of the photograph is very good. It gives it a little bit of character as opposed to a more utilitarian approach. -atothev

Techo: Thanks, indeed sometimes you need peace to work. And someone to watch out, just in case. I find I concentrate a lot and can't follow what's happening around me.

José Pablo: Gracias! Yes, I find that the G3 is a nice macro machine. I wonder what I'll do if I ever get to buy the 20D I want...

Great macro! That's your specialty. I like the detail of the mantis and the DOF.

A very nice mantis portrait with detail :-) I like it!
I totally understand what you said about "are you done yet", I have that same feeling when taking walks with friends/family and me stopping a long the way to take snapshots. Though I haven't taken any walks this summer , everyone is too busy or the weather won't permit it :-(

Today, at work, I showed to both workmates the resulting photo. They're non-photographers. Their resounding judgement about the pic: "Oh, too bad you couldn't capture the whole body... It would have been better that way...".

LOL award for the title!!
And very nice macro, indeed. Beautiful colors - the green background works very well.
