After the return of the monarchy, in the form of Charles II, the Puritans found life hard to bear in England. Many decided to leave the country, some to Holland and others to the American colanies.
One group left Plymouth on the Mayflower, intending to start a new life in the colony of Virginia. After surviving horrible conditions and storms at sea, they finally arrived in the New World on the coast of Massachusetts. Once ashore they had to survive servere winters and unfriendly natives.
The Mayflower2 was built some 300 years after the Mayflower's voyage and is a perfect replica of the original ship. Like the original, Mayflower2 also made the voyage under sail from Plymouth to Plymouth, Massachusetts.
