Fruit is the way some plants use to survive. The beautiful flower may die, but in doing so, gives way to the seed-bearing fruit. Just one more of the strategies living things use. This is a Passion Fruit (maracuyá), from my Passiflora edulis flavicarpa. The flower once was a Passion Flower. At the lower left, you can see a bud. As luck would have it, there wasn't an open flower to portray the circle of life. |
