Thanks for the comments everyone!
Lonnit... I agree with you about the bottle being on the wrong side. When I placed it on the other side, the shadow fell across the pup. The time frame of working with a newborn is about 10 minutes if I'm lucky, and as I'd already used this setup for another in the series when I wanted long shadows, I didn't have the time to play with lights before the pup needed mom again.
Pops - I agree also about the blur - believe it or not, there is some added (can you tell I hate ironing?) When I added more, it all looked terribly cut and pasted ... my skills in this area are lacking. In other photos, I have added more, lots more, as far as my skills (or lack of) have allowed me, and gotten a completely different look seehttp://www.pbase.com/image/19495108 Techo - as to posing the retriever pup, at that age, just give them a toy (one you're willing to lose), and fire away. I did have the pup's breeder on hand to help focus her attention.
Cheers - Tracy!
What a wonderfull, job all three of your puppy photos are fantastic. This one being my favorite. How did you get the labrador or is it a golden retriever puppy to pose for that first photo? - Techo

I think I might have tried masking the light blue background and then appling a gausian blur it to eliminate detail. If that worked I might have done the same for the table cloth. The wrinkles are a very minor distration. I still think this is a great photo.
OH, is that precious!!!!!! What's everyone's thoughts on composition here? Would the sauce have been better on the other side, to sort of help stop the eye and not let it go past the pup's head? I feel like I'm either not making it well enough to his head, or maybe that I'm being pulled back by the bottle. Does anyone else feel that? Yes, I think that might be it. When I get to his head, I slip back thru the shell and anchor at where the shell meets the sauce. If the plate were shifted left and the sauce to the right thirds line, I think I'd anchor on the pups head. This is more of a question than a critique as I am still trying to learn this myself. :) Just adorable though! So, when do you start selling these as posters? :) ~ Lonnit
