I was walking by the Ste. Anne de Bellevue liftlock, which is the modern equivalent of the first liftlock built there in 1843 (and is now a Canadian National Historic site), looked down, and saw this unusual metallic object embedded in the concrete. The object's texture and unusual shape made me do a double-take, grab my camera, and snap a picture of it. I wonder whether it was a part of the original liftlock. Nothing else is visible around the modern, operational liftlock, except this piece (?).
I used a semi-manual setting to take the picture: ISO 50, +1 EV exposure, Partly-cloudy WB (could anybody recommend a better setting for these conditions?). Post-processing was as follows. I increased: midrange colour range, sharpness, shadow detail, and highlights. Concrete was converted to black & white to make the metal stand out, and I blended a 'rocky' background at the borders of the image. A black frame was finally added.
Is this a little too much post-processing, or does it work for this image?
Cheers,
Anu.
