Fresh Fish for Supper

Victoria, BC Canada

Caught this Great Blue Heron just as he caught this fish. It was too big for him to eat and he just walked around the shoreline for a hour.

This would be a good nature documentary photo, and I applaud your tenacity in following this guy around. Is it just me or is the color balance a little off?

Garrett, I live by a migratory bird santuray with up to 60 herons here feeding. Never seen a heron catch a fish this large, it is too big to swallow!

Anabela, I waited around for over a hour following the heron on the shoreline as he tried to fig out what to do with this fish, finally I left. Interesting when he first caught it, it flapped around so much he kept sticking it back in the water, time and time again. I believe he finally drowned the fish!

How lucky you were to get this shot in your hometown. I had to go all the way to Florida to get my similar shot. I was going to call mine "Catfish for Supper" (a song title that I discovered during the "Sing a Song" challenge), but after seing your title, I changed mine. --Garrett
