Sweet thing *

Massachusetts

This young girl was the only child at a baby shower for her aunt, and it seemed at times that she thought the party was for her. Here she's just finished eating a hand-dipped chocolate-covered strawberry, and she's licking the sweet syrup from her fingers. I loved the way her crimson-stained fingers picked up the reds in her dress and lips and the pink in her porcelain complexion. I wanted to edit out the louvered background, which I find distracting, but I couldn't figure out how to do so without losing the wispy curls around her face.

Thank you for your comments. She really is a sweet little girl...not related to me at all. I don't know why the EXIF didn't come through...camera was a Canon G3. --flowersand

I don't find the shade that distracting. What makes this so charming is how much sugary goop is on her hands and mouth and what a lovely child she is. I like this one very much. Ann C

Mary Anne, gorgeous candid and a great study of this little girls concentration on her sweet task ;-) the colors are also beautiful and the sheen on her hair add all up to a beautiful study...I personally find the shutter adds rather than distracts, it gives a sense of place...well done...BTW what camera did you use? Hi Mary Anne,

Nice candid! To do what you want, you would need a PS plug-in called Extensis Mask Pro. The way it works is using the colors that you define as keepers or "goners". After you do that, you would use the magic brush and you would see how the white areas are masked, leaving the hair areas. It is a really nice plugin.
